About this event

T.O. the Good Swap is a monthly clothing exchange for all genders, all bodies, and all ages. Love clothes and the planet? Then you'll love this event...

HOW IT WORKS

1. Drop

Stop at the welcome area with up to 10 items or 2 regular sized grocery bags of preloved clothing, footwear, jewelry, and accessories in good condition (a.k.a laundered and folded, no rips, stains, used undies or socks).

2. Swap

Find some thing(s) you love and try it/them on in the event space or washrooms.

3. Keep

Take what you want home with you. We ask that you to limit the amount you take home to a similar amount to what you brought. Remember: it's not about how much you get, it's about how much you'll wear it!

4. Share

Tag @the.good.swap to share your finds with the world. Sign up for our mailing list to find out when the next swap is!

Check out our FAQ page!

OUR MISSION

Eliminate textile waste in Toronto and champion ethical and sustainable fashion practices globally by encouraging participation in the conscious fashion movement through swap events, advocacy, and education.

Our mission differs from service organizations such as clothing banks which provide access to free or low-cost clothing for those in need of it. This list of clothing banks in Toronto may be useful if you are looking for these services.

WHY SWAP?

By swapping instead of shopping (or dumping your clothes at a thrift store), you’re participating in the circular economy, keeping clothing out of landfills, saving money, updating your wardrobe, avoiding unethical fast fashion and resource depletion, and sharing with a community of likeminded people… and sharing feels good.

All the sweet haul dopamine, none of the ethical dilemma!

Learn more about the fashion industry and how to care for clothing you truly no longer need on our Resources page.

COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

  1. Be nice to each other. Respect physical boundaries.

  2. Ten items or less. Please be respectful of our ten item limit!

  3. Check your items: no holes, no stains, missing parts, clean, and ready to be loved by someone new.

  4. Wash your items in scent-free soap and fold them before attending.

  5. Respect physical boundaries.

  6. Don’t hoard. Try things on as you go so others can check them out if you decide not to keep them.

  7. Don’t hover. Please keep the drop-off table clear and let volunteers place the items before looking through them.

  8. Don’t use the swap as a dumping ground. The end-of-life care of your textiles is your responsibility. You bought it, you bury it.*

  9. Don’t take to sell. Please take items that you or someone you personally know will wear.

  10. Don’t do stuff that makes us have to write any more community guidelines.

*Don't actually bury it. 85% of textile waste ends up in landfills each year.

Fine print: *We don’t take responsibility for garments donated and swapped and accept no liability for any claim or loss resulting from any transaction taking place at the event.*

Swap at your own risk: The swap is a high traffic event, and the opportunity for germs and pests to spread is elevated. We ask that swappers always wash their clothing in scent-free soap before a swap and only attend if they are in good health, but please be advised that we cannot guarantee the conditions of items at - or outcomes of - the swap. Take precautions: wear a face mask, use hand sanitizer, and wash your items when you get home!

Events Description

The festival invites the public to come together to reclaim death as a special part of life. This event is dedicated to exploring and honouring the significance of mourning in public spaces. In a world where grief is often private and hidden, the Good Mourning Festival invites you to celebrate the profound communal aspects of mourning. Through workshops, food, shopping, art installations, walks and more, we create a space where grief can be expressed, shared and understood.

The Good Mourning Festival is more than an event – it’s a chance for people to embrace the full spectrum of human emotion in our public spaces. See below for details on each day and to find out how to register for Octobers offerings.

Day 1: Together in Grief
On Saturday, November 2, from 10am – 3pm, together, we will demonstrate the role of public space in public grief. We invite our visitors to explore the universal themes of grief and death with open hearts and open minds. The day offers a warm embrace, featuring interactive installations that invite you to engage, workshops that encourage meaningful conversations and art pieces that celebrate the human experience.

Come and be part of this inviting space where you can connect with others, share your stories and find comfort in the shared journey of life and loss. We extend a heartfelt invitation to all, as we come together to explore these profound aspects of our existence in a supportive and inclusive atmosphere, fostering understanding and connection.

Day 2: Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)
Evergreen’s beloved Day of the Dead celebration is back on Saturday, November 3, from 10am – 3pm! Día de los Muertos is celebration of Mexican and Latin American culture where people welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion. Expect to see an explosion of colour and activities for children and adults alike. It incorporates traditional Mexican and Latin American celebrations, shopping, fun family activities and delicious food and drink. Let’s celebrate the cultural diversity of our city at Día de los Muertos together!

Tree Canada's National Tree Day Planting Event in Toronto
Sep

10:30 a.m.10:30

Tree Canada's National Tree Day Planting Event in Toronto

Tree Canada's National Tree Day Planting Event in Toronto (Downsview Park)

Tree Canada is excited to plant trees with the Toronto community in honour of National Tree Day. Come out and celebrate with us!

Tree Canada is excited to celebrate National Tree Day (NTD), presented by BMO . This is the biggest NTD celebration yet, with planting events taking place across the country on both the Wednesday and Saturday of National Forest Week.
Join us to plant trees at Downsview Park and connect with nature. Volunteers will plant and mulch 300 trees and shrubs, and plant 50 wildflowers. Tree Canada experts and volunteers will be there to provide support and answer your tree questions. We’ll also provide gloves and shovels! This event is completely FREE!

How you'll be making an impact
This event is being held in an inner-city park with low canopy cover. Planting trees in this currently mowed area will serve to increase canopy cover and naturalize the space, reducing the need for mowing and lowering the park's carbon footprint.
Trees play a vital role in absorbing and storing carbon and water, combating climate change and preventing costly flooding damage. They also improve human health by filtering out air and water pollutants, and their roots and leaves help prevent stormwater runoff into a nearby pond, which supports a variety of species, including fish, herons, and turtles. This initiative will enhance the park, encouraging outdoor recreation and relaxation, while improving habitat connectivity and supporting biodiversity.

Free Food:
This is a catered event! Volunteers can grab a snack and beverage, courtesy of Starbucks .

What to wear and bring:
Volunteers should wear and bring the following:
-Water bottle
-Sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots
-Long pants
-Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing
-Sunscreen
-Bug spray
-Hat
This rain or shine event will take place unless the forecast calls for thunderstorms or very heavy rainfall.

We look forward to planting with you!

Meeting Point and Parking:
Arriving by car: Meet at Downsview Park South Parking Lot and walk, together with Tree Canada’s Forestry Specialist, 8 to 10 minutes up and down gentle slopes along a paved trail. We recommend arriving 15 minutes early to avoid delays.
Arriving by public transit: Meet directly at the planting site. See the area marked in green near the parkrun in the above map.

Terrain:
The terrain has gentle slopes along paved surfaces up to site. The planting site is turf.

Amenities:
Washrooms are located by the parking lot.

Notice of photography:
By registering to participate in this event, you consent to your photo being taken or video of you being recorded during the event and used on social media and in Tree Canada and its partners' marketing materials.
